The Nigerian Army has announced the successful rescue of six kidnap victims in the Kajuru/Kujama area of Kaduna State by troops of Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY).
In a statement released on Tuesday, January 6, and signed by Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Umar noted that the operations were designed to restrict the freedom of violent extremists within the Joint Operations Area (JOA) and maintain security in the wider Sector 1 region.
According to Umar, the rescue, conducted on Monday, January 5, 2026, was part of a coordinated series of operations across multiple axes in Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia, and Kagarko Local Government Areas of the State, including the fringes of Kauru border communities.
“Following a distress alert on the activities of violent extremists around the Kasso adjoining hills, troops of Sub-Sector 5, who were already conducting clearance operations in the Kujeni general area, swiftly mobilised to the location. On arrival, troops made contact with the criminals and engaged them with effective suppressive fire, forcing them to flee in disarray into the surrounding forest.
“The rescued victims were safely handed over to representatives of Kajuru Local Government Area and the Kajuru Emirate Council for onward reunification with their families,” the statement said.
Major General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase, General Officer Commanding/Commander Sector 1 OPFY, also commended the troops for their efforts, urging them to remain on maximum alert and continue to sustain an aggressive tempo to deny criminal elements freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area.
