Arsenal remain determined to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen despite Galatasaray’s insistence that the forward will not leave the Turkish champions before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Gunners have reportedly explored the possibility of signing Osimhen while Galatasaray negotiate potential deals for Arsenal forwards Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri.

According to Turkish publication Sozcu, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta continues to view Osimhen as a viable alternative to Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, who has also been on the Premier League club’s radar.

Arsenal’s long-standing interest in Alvarez has been complicated by Atletico’s reported valuation of at least £150 million, making Osimhen a more attainable target.

The Nigerian has established himself as one of Europe’s most prolific forwards since joining Galatasaray from Napoli for €75 million (£65 million). He has scored 59 goals in 74 appearances for the Turkish club and played a key role in their consecutive league title triumphs.

Osimhen was also instrumental in Napoli’s Serie A title success in 2023 and has consistently attracted interest from Premier League clubs, having come close to joining Chelsea two years ago.

Despite Galatasaray’s position, the 27-year-old appeared to leave the door open to a possible transfer when asked about speculation following the club’s opening league match of the season on Friday.

“There are always rumours during the transfer windows,” Osimhen said.

Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek, however, has reportedly insisted that the club have no intention of selling their star striker this summer.

The Turkish champions have already demonstrated their resolve by rejecting a €130 million (£111 million) offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal for Osimhen.

Arsenal’s interest comes as Arteta seeks to strengthen his attacking options. Viktor Gyokeres endured a mixed first campaign, while Gabriel Jesus is expected to leave the club.

The Gunners will therefore have to convince Galatasaray to reconsider their stance if they are to bring Osimhen to the Emirates before the transfer window closes.
