From the Ward Congress on September 13, 2025, to the Local Government Congress on September 20, 2025, and finally to the State Congress on September 28, 2025, the Adamawa State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has conducted one of the most seamless series of congresses in recent political history. At each stage, executives were peacefully and unanimously elected, from the wards to the local governments and up to the state level. This stands in sharp contrast to the rancor, litigations, and factional divisions that usually trail party congresses across the country.
The party’s ability to achieve these remarkable results is largely credited to one factor; its leader, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. Since becoming the Governor of Adamawa State, which automatically made him the leader of his party, Fintiri has consciously redefined party politics in Adamawa, ensuring stability, unity, and inclusiveness. He has provided four key elements that have made the Adamawa PDP both stable and effective.
First, Fintiri has built a representative system where every stakeholder feels included in the party and government. From grassroots mobilizers to political heavyweights, everyone sees themselves reflected in the structure of the PDP in Adamawa. This sense of belonging has significantly reduced internal friction and strengthened the party’s base.
Secondly, Fintiri has exhibited discipline and calmness in political decision-making. Unlike many politicians who thrive on constant rhetoric or confrontational politics, he has maintained a measured, thoughtful approach. He neither speaks carelessly nor engages recklessly with political opponents. This has given the Adamawa PDP an image of maturity, order, and seriousness.
Thirdly, Fintiri’s performance as governor has given the PDP in Adamawa a distinct identity. His administration’s developmental projects, policies on education, health, infrastructure, and social welfare have translated into goodwill for the party. In the eyes of the electorate, the PDP is not just a political platform but a vehicle of visible progress.
Fourthly, all the congresses, from ward to local government to state, were products of consensus. But this was not the usual “consensus” that Nigerians often associate with backroom deals, where leaders merely handpick their cronies and loyalists. Instead, Fintiri championed a broad-based consensus that brought all stakeholders into the fold. From the ward level to the state, discussions, consultations, and negotiations were carried out in a way that made everyone feel involved.
The newly elected Adamawa PDP executives reflect four core strategic principles: recognizing unwavering party loyalty, ensuring broad-based representation and fairness, building consensus among all stakeholders, and leveraging the successes of yesterday and today to build a powerful tomorrow. This explains why, after the congresses, there were no protests, petitions, or grievances. Rather, there was renewed vigor, celebration, and unity across the party.
This consensus-building, loyalty reward, using today for tomorrow strategies have further consolidated the PDP in Adamawa as one of the most cohesive state chapters in the country. It has also positioned the party strongly ahead of the 2027 general elections, with a solid structure and a united front.
Fintiri is a master planner and executor when it comes to real party politics. This is one of the reasons the PDP at the national level consistently entrusts him with leadership roles. On November 15–16, 2025, he will once again lead the party’s 119-member National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC) to successfully organize the 2025 Elective National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, an event expected to give the PDP renewed strength and momentum.
