The Asagba of Asaba in Delta State, Epiphany Azinge, has threatened to banish from Asaba, any native who disregards the Asagba-in-council resolution.
In a verified Facebook post, the traditional ruler who is also Sa enior Advocate of Nigeria, (SAN), warned Asaba sons and daughters of the risk they face if they sell their family lands.
He said leasing was the only way to protect inheritance and land in Asaba can only be leased for 65 years.
“Asaba land is not my land, it belongs to the people. But it is my duty to protect our unborn children. They must have where to call a home. Consequently, any Asaba son who sells land outright with disregard to the lease-hold of 65 years resolution of the Asagba in Council will be banished.
“The governor has visited me on this issue, the immediate past governor, Senator Okowa, also visited me on this matter and I explained the situation to them,” he said.
