Following the viral video showing a police officer assaulting a young man, the Imo State commissioner of police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde has commenced orderly room trial for the officer.

This is even as the police have called on people to stop using social media as their complaint platform.

Police spokesperson for Imo State Command, Henry Okoye made the disclosure, yesterday.

Okoye said the erring inspector had been identified and is already facing an orderly room trial by the monitoring team after which necessary disciplinary action will be taken against him.

In the video, the yet to be named inspector, was seen repeatedly slapping the young man after he forcefully removed the cap.

The police spokesperson said the Imo police boss condemned the attack saying the action negated the conduct of the Force.

He said, “CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, condemns this irritating act in totality as it highly contradicts the professional ethics and code of conduct of the Force. The Nigeria Police Force is a highly disciplined organization and will never tolerate the misconduct of the officer seen in the video.”

Furthermore, he said the police boss called on the victim to make a formal complaint to the police or call the Imo Public Relations Officer (PPRO) via 08148024755.

Residents in Imo had repeatedly complained about the rising spate of extortion and assault from police personnel across the state even as some have resorted to using social media to make complaints.
