Assembly Confirms Makama As Chairman Bauchi SIEC

The Bauchi State House of Assembly has confirmed Alhaji Ahmed Makama as chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC).

The confirmation followed the request letter sent by Governor Bala Mohammed which was read during  plenary presided over by the speaker, Hon. Abubakar Suleiman yesterday.

The members also confirmed Rt. Hon. Bappa Haruna Disina as chairman, Bauchi State House of Assembly Service Commission.

Presenting the messages to the House, the majority leader, Hon. Tijjani Muhammad Aliyu, said Governor Bala requested them to screen and confirm the two positions.

In the second message, the governor requested the House to screen and confirm the reappointment of Alhaji Abdu Babayo Jalam and Dr. Dauda Abdullahi as permanent commissioners in the Bauchi State Civil Service Commission.

The majority leader moved that since the nominees were very important personalities who meritoriously served the state and nation, they should be confirmed.

Seconding the motion, the minority leader, Hon. Bakoji Aliyu Bobbo, said  Rt. Hon. Bappa Haruna Disina had served as speaker, thus he is qualified for the job and Alhaji Ahmed Makama had served as Residential Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in various states, thus he is qualified to serve as chairman of the state’s electoral umpire.

Speaker Abubakar Sulaiman said the nominees were veterans in their respective areas of assignment. The confirmed two permanent commissioners, Bauchi State Civil Service Commission are Alhaji Abdu Babayo Jalam and Dr. Dauda Abdullahi.

In another development, the state  assembly has passed into law, a bill for a law to establish Bauchi State Rural Access Roads Authority (RARA) 2022.
