The Kano State House of Assembly has urged the state government to take swift and decisive action to tackle the growing insecurity in Shanono, Tsanyawa, and Bagwai local government areas.

The resolution followed a joint motion of urgent public importance sponsored by members representing Shanono/Bagwai and Ghari/Tsanyawa constituencies during Wednesday’s plenary session presided over by Speaker Ismail Falgore.

Moving the motion, Hon. Alhassan Kiyawa (Shanono/Bagwai) and Hon. Garba Ya’u Gwarmai (Tsanyawa/Kunchi) expressed concern over the alarming increase in cattle rustling, kidnapping, and bandit attacks in the affected areas.

Kiyawa disclosed that Shanono, which has about 140,000 residents and 10 wards, has suffered over 30 attacks since 2023, with six wards—particularly Faruruwa, Bahushiya, and Goron Dutse—worst hit.

He lamented that despite the deployment of a joint task force, the communities remain under siege, and thousands of cattle have been rustled.

The lawmakers noted that the proximity of the areas to Katsina State has worsened the situation, as bandits often cross boundaries to launch attacks.

They called on the government to deploy more security personnel, strengthen joint patrols, and mount checkpoints to monitor movement in and out of boundary towns such as Tsaure and Faruruwa.

They also urged the government to provide modern equipment and monthly support for the security task force, as well as promote socio-economic activities by establishing industries or institutions in the area to engage the youth and restore peace.
