President Bola Tinubu has praised Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani, for his courage, inclusive governance and commitment to democratic ideals as he marks his 55th birthday on Wednesday, December 31.
In a tribute personally signed by him on Tuesday, the President described Governor Sani as a younger brother and a friend in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle, noting that his life and public service offer enduring lessons, particularly for younger generations.
Tinubu recalled that as a young man, Uba Sani identified the pursuit of a free and egalitarian society as his life’s purpose, stressing that the struggle for democracy was undertaken not for personal gain but for the betterment of society and the freedom of the people.
According to the President, Governor Sani belongs to a rare generation of leaders whose journey to power was rooted in sacrifice and principle. He noted that as a student leader and pro-democracy activist during the period of military rule, Sani stood firmly for justice, freedom and national unity, choosing conviction at a time when fear and silence were widespread.
Tinubu said that since assuming positions of authority, the governor has not abandoned his history of struggle, but has allowed it to mature into statesmanship marked by humility, empathy and resolve.
Reflecting on his legislative career, the President said that as a Senator in the 9th National Assembly, Uba Sani distinguished himself as a reform-minded lawmaker, citing his contributions to the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA) 2020. He noted that the legislation strengthened financial stability, embraced innovation, supported fintech growth and expanded access to credit for businesses and entrepreneurs.
Tinubu also commended the governor’s performance since assuming office on May 29, 2023, saying he had brought a refreshing tone to governance in Kaduna State through compassion, dialogue, reconciliation and development.
The President said Governor Sani’s inclusive governance model had helped unite the people of Kaduna State, heal ethnic and religious divisions and restore trust across communities. He noted that areas such as Birni Gwari, previously affected by banditry, had witnessed renewed calm, with farmers returning to their farms and agricultural activities improving.
According to Tinubu, by engaging traditional rulers, religious leaders and local communities as partners in peace, the governor has deepened security and promoted sustainable development across the state.
He added that the administration’s achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, industrialisation and agriculture reflect an understanding that development must be inclusive and touch lives equitably.
The President also described Governor Sani as a trusted and reliable ally of his administration, commending his commitment to the ideals and objectives of the All Progressives Congress and his support for the Renewed Hope Agenda.
As the Kaduna governor turns 55, Tinubu said he was proud of his journey from pro-democracy activism to governance, and wished him good health, strength, renewed wisdom and greater accomplishments in the service of Kaduna State and Nigeria.
