President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Professor Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, on his 70th birthday, praising the monarch’s decades-long record of scholarship, public service, and cultural leadership.
In a statement personally signed on Thursday, the President described the respected traditional ruler as “one of Nigeria’s finest legal luminaries” whose journey to the throne was marked by excellence, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to national development.
Tinubu noted that before ascending the throne of his forebears, Professor Azinge distinguished himself in several high-profile roles, including serving as the fifth Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) from 2009 to 2014. The President also recalled that the monarch represented Nigeria and Africa as a judge at the Commonwealth Arbitral Tribunal in London.
Celebrating what he called a “Renaissance monarch,” President Tinubu said the Asagba embodies “knowledge, wisdom, grace, discipline, and cultural sophistication,” qualities that have shaped his leadership of the Asaba Kingdom.
He commended the Delta-born royal father not only for his contributions in public office but also for his dedicated years in private legal practice, where he earned national and international respect as a senior lawyer.
As the monarch marks his platinum jubilee, the President prayed for more years of good health and wisdom for him, expressing confidence that Professor Azinge will continue to provide “sterling leadership” to the people of Asaba and beyond.
Tinubu joined the Azinge family, the Asaba Kingdom, and the people of Delta State in celebrating what he described as a milestone worthy of honour and national recognition.
