President Bola Tinubu has acknowledged the efforts of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, assuring all Nigerians that the reform-oriented path the immediate past leader initiated will be consolidated and strengthened under his administration.

Tinubu stated this during the launch of a book titled “According to the President: lessons from a presidential spokesman’s experience” by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to former President Buhari on Media and Publicity, in Abuja on Wednesday.

The president, who the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, represented, said the efforts of one administration lay the foundation for the next.

“The efforts of one administration lay the foundation for the next. In this regard, I acknowledge the efforts of my predecessor, President Buhari, and assure all Nigerians that the reform-oriented path he initiated will be consolidated and strengthened under this administration.

“Our Renewed Hope Agenda is inspired by the desire to build a resilient, just and inclusive Nigeria – a nation that delivers dividends of democracy to all its citizens,” he said.

Tinubu described Buhari as a man whose leadership was based on integrity, accountability, prudence, and patriotism.

Meanwhile, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu contributed little to Muhammadu Buhari’s emergence as President in 2015.

Mustapha, who served as SGF during the President Muhammadu Buhari administration after the removal of Babachir Lawal, dismissed Tinubu’s contributions to Buhari’s emergence as president in 2015.

Speaking at the unveiling of the book, “According to the President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesperson’s Experience,” written by Garba Shehu, the former SGF said Buhari already had 12 million existing votes and that the merger of the legacy parties merely contributed three million votes.

The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, who shared insights into Buhari’s leadership, noted that Garba Shehu’s elevation from campaign spokesman to senior media aide was merit-based and reflective of his stellar record in journalism.

He disclosed that the book, divided into three key parts, covers the inner workings of the presidency, Buhari’s leadership style, and a comprehensive overview of his legacy between 2015 and 2023.

The event was attended by several dignitaries from across Nigeria’s political, diplomatic, and media landscapes, further underscoring the national significance of the former President’s tenure and the lasting imprint it left on the country’s democratic journey.

Also speaking at the event, immediate past Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo reflected on Shehu’s journey from journalist to presidential spokesman, praising his professionalism and composure during challenging moments.
