Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has matriculated 4,355 newly admitted students into various degree programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Speaking on Friday during the matriculation ceremony held at the 1,000-capacity Lecture Theatre, Yelwa Campus, the vice-chancellor, Prof Ibrahim Hassan Garba, described ATBU as an institution committed to academic excellence and global competitiveness.

He said the university continues to strengthen its reputation through innovative programmes in sciences, engineering, health sciences and other key disciplines, urging the newly admitted students to remain focused on their academic goals.

The vice-chancellor warned the students against engaging in cultism, drug abuse and other social vices, stressing that the university maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward such activities.

He stated that any student found involved in cultism, examination malpractice or other forms of misconduct would face strict disciplinary action, including possible expulsion and prosecution.

Prof Garba advised the students to prioritise their studies, make effective use of the university’s facilities, and cultivate discipline, diligence and punctuality throughout their academic journey.

He also encouraged them to familiarise themselves with the students’ handbook, which contains the rules and regulations guiding their conduct within the institution.

The vice-chancellor congratulated the newly admitted students on securing admission, describing the opportunity as a privilege that should not be taken for granted.

He also commended parents, guardians and staff of the university for their continuous support toward the development of the institution.

According to him, the over 4,000 students were admitted into various faculties including Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (231), College of Medical Sciences (388), Computing (526), Engineering and Engineering Technology (933), Environmental Technology (726), Management Sciences (356), Science (800), SPESSECE (107), and Technology Education (288).
