ATBUTH Shuts College Of Nursing, Suspends Academic Activities

The management of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, has announced the temporary closure of its College of Nursing Sciences until further notice.

In a statement issued yesterday by the head of the public relations and protocol unit, Usman Abdullahi Koli, the hospital said the decision was taken in response to ongoing renovation works at the students’ hostel and challenges affecting accommodation.

According to the management, the situation had raised concerns over students’ safety, welfare and their ability to learn effectively.

The hospital acknowledged concerns raised by students over insecurity, hardship and delays in the completion of the hostel renovation, stressing that the safety, welfare and dignity of students remained a top priority.

Consequently, all academic activities, including lectures, clinical postings and examinations, have been suspended for the duration of the temporary closure.

“A revised academic calendar will be communicated once normal academic activities resume,” the statement said.

The management also announced that the college hostel would remain closed until the renovation works were completed and the facility certified safe for occupation.

Students were advised to remain in contact with their class representatives and the Office of the Dean, Student Affairs, for official updates and further directives.

They were also urged to avoid activities or situations that could compromise their safety during the period of the closure.

The hospital management expressed regret over the inconvenience the temporary closure might cause students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders, but said the decision was necessary to safeguard the students and ensure that academic activities resumed in a safe, secure and conducive environment.

It appreciated the patience, understanding and cooperation of students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders as efforts continued to resolve the situation.
