The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, has alerted the public about fraudulent activities by some individuals impersonating the chief medical director (CMD), Prof Yusuf Jibrin both online and offline to fraudulently obtain money from people using the CMD’s name.
A statement yesterday by the head of the Public Relations Unit, ATBUTH, Mr Usman Abdullahi, said the scammers falsely claimed that the CMD is awarding contracts, particularly for the purchase of 200 HP laptops under the guise of approval from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare as part of the hospital’s digitisation initiative.
He added that the fraudsters have been using the phone number 08167069701 to contact unsuspecting individuals via WhatsApp, phone calls, and SMS, attempting to defraud them.
ATBUTH stated that no such procurement process has been initiated through unofficial channels.
He stressed that all legitimate procurement activities follow due process and official procedures as stipulated by law, urging the public to remain vigilant, ignore such fraudulent claims and report any suspicious communications to the appropriate authorities.
The hospital assured that the management is working closely with security agencies to track, apprehend and prosecute those involved in the scam.
