A former minister of state for justice and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Musa Elayo, has expressed optimism that the party’s presidential candidate will win the North Central with a landslide.
Ahead of the election, analysts had described the North Central as the battle ground for major contenders for the country’s topmost position.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) currently controls all the states in the zone except Benue, where PDP’s Samuel Ortom held sway as the chief executive.
However, Elayo who is also the party’s Desk Officer for the zone said traditionally, the North Central belonged to the PDP “and we will retake it back come Saturday”.
“You know human interest, human feeling, human behavior changes; they have tried PDP for many years, they wanted to try other parties to see which one will perform better, but PDP has remained a strong party in the North Central zone, it’s either it is first or second in any of the states in the North Central Zone. So, I see a brighter prospect for PDP in the North Central states in this coming election,” he told LEADERSHIP in an interview in Lafia, Nasarawa State, yesterday.
He hinged his confidence in the main opposition party’s ability to win the zone on “unmatched track record of performance” and the APC’s “poor outing in almost eight years.”
“The performances of the APC governments in most of the states in the North Central cannot be compared with the achievements of the PDP when we were in power. So, I see the PDP winning more states in the coming election in the North Central zone,” he emphasized.
He noted that beyond the performance indices, PDP is more coercive and devoid of internal wranglings that characterised most of the APC states ahead of the elections.
He also said that Atiku Abubakar’s outing during the ongoing campaigns has further reinforced the confidence in Nigeria masses that the party and its presidential candidate meant well for the country’s growth and development.
“The former vice president, Atiku Abubakar has deep knowledge of the country and experiences to get it out of the woods,” he said.
