The Rector of Akawe Torkula Polytechnic, Makurdi, Dr. Martins Moses Agena has assured that he would give the necessary support for the sustenance of the Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) programme at the Polytechnic, irrespective of the institution’s new status.
Dr. Agena gave the assurance in Makurdi while addressing Management Staff on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 also approved the immediate release of funds for the payment of IJMB regulatory fees to enable students of the institution participate in the final examination for the 2023/2024 academic session.
While highlighting the need to maintain the programme, the Rector noted that IJMB is a perfect alternative to JAMB/UTME which is designed to solve the challenge of admission into Nigerian universities.
He said although the mandate of the institution has shifted significantly from what it used to be after its upgrading to a polytechnic, the institution under his leadership will continue to prepare students for Direct Entry admission into universities, stressing that most prominent Nigerians who passed through the school have continued to excel in diverse fields of human endeavor.
Dr. Agena further disclosed that the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, PhD has given him an ambitious mandate to drive and remodel the Polytechnic into an excellent technical and vocational institution towards making it a hub for producing technically trained graduates who instead of roaming the streets in search of jobs at the end of their programmes, would become self-reliant and useful to the society by providing a skilled workforce for industrial needs of the State.
He therefore charged both staff and students of the institution to buckle up their belts and fold up their sleeves to be able to fit in and be useful to the system.
Dr. Agena further called on parents, guardians as well as school leavers who are aspiring to gain Direct Entry admissions into Nigerian universities to take advantage of the unique opportunity provided by the institution and enroll for the programme.
