The comptroller-general of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nana Nandap, has urged officers in border areas to be more proactive in discharging their duties.
She made the appeal yesterday when she addressed both senior and junior officers of the NIS in Bakin Ruwa border checkpoint, during a visit to ascertain the level of destruction of NIS facilities and how terrorists killed three officers during the attack.
“Though it was excruciating how these officers lost their lives to the terrorists but, this will not stop you from doing your job effectively, therefore those of you who are here should put more efforts in protecting the country’s borders from attackers, “ Nandap said.
“Let me also urge you to remain calm and be more active in discharging your duty effectively so don’t be scared, stay in your duty post as the service is set to improve the security of its staff in border areas,” she added.
The NIS boss, while sympathising with the family of the deceased officers, also condemned the destruction and killing by the terrorists during the attack.
She promised to seek for the merging of Check Points of all security agencies in the border areas in order to fight the terrorists collectively.
Before leaving the area, the comptroller was conducted round the damaged facility and the official vehicle at Bakin Ruwa border check point.
