The African Union Development Agency – New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD) Nigeria, has hailed President Bola Tinubu’s emergence as chairman of the Economic Community of West Africa State (ECOWAS) at the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government on Sunday in Bissau, Guinea- Bissau.
In a statement signed by the communication officer of AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria, Marcel Anyatonwu, the national coordinator and chief executive officer of AUDI-NEPAD, Princess Gloria Akobundu said the endorsement of President Tinubu indicated that ECOWAS sub-region and Africa believe that he can provide purposeful leadership in steering the sub-region out of its economic challenges and improve the multi-lateral relationship amongst member states, and promote democracy and good governance.
According to Akobundu, in President Tinubu’s acceptance speech, it was clear that he understood clearly the challenges of the sub-region and pledged to work with his colleagues in coming up with workable solutions in addressing them.
The NEPAD chief executive officer also applauded the president for upholding the tenets of democracy and the rule of law by categorically taking a stand against any form of coup in the sub-region and Africa.
She said the pronouncement by the president has sent a strong signal to any group contemplating carrying out the act, which has become an unpopular way of governance in the world, urging them to rethink and drop the idea.
