The author Practical Perspective On Youth, Mr. Odianose Dominic Matthew has called for the improved welfare, love and kindness to children across the country as a way of giving them a sense of belonging and assurance that the future is bright for them.
Odianose who made the call during his visit to the Lagos Special Correctional Centre For Boys, Oregun as part of his 50th Birthday celebration emphasised that children across the country, especially those in various correctional centres need and expect love, care, compassion.
During the visit, the United Kingdom based Lawyer distributed the food to the children, while also donating football kits, assuring the children the gesture will be extended to them on an annual basis.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the session with the children, he noted that children and youths are the future of every country and needed to be groomed with utmost care and protected irrespective of family background and situations they found themselves in.
He commended the state government for providing the necessary facilities at the correctional centre, noting that there is improvement in the centre compared to when worked there as one of the staff in the centre.
Odianose however urged the government to, ‘’Build multipurpose halls for the children so that they have more rooms, more games, and provide more tools to support them because these children unfortunately are disadvantaged. We want peace in our society, we need to create that peace, we have to be intentional on how we create that peace.
We don’t want people who will come out from the correctional centre and become a menace or return back to where they come from, go back to the street lords who will use them to perpetuate crimes.
‘’When they are well groomed here by the time they leave this facility they will not want to have anything to do with crime but would rather aim for better, bigger things in their lives. I think the state government is doing well. I want to enjoin all well- meaning individuals to support the state government.
‘’You don’t need to have all the money in the world. I for instance do not have all the money in the world but from the little I have, I can share. That is purposeful giving to charities correctional centres that will impact positively in the lives of these children. This is what we should encourage people to do
