First Lady Remi Tinubu has issued an impassioned call for early intervention and greater societal inclusion for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
In a statement to mark World Autism Awareness Day, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized that early diagnosis and access to support services are critical to helping those on the autism spectrum reach their full potential.
“I urge parents and caregivers to be attentive to developmental milestones and seek professional help if any concerns arise,” she said.
The first lady highlighted the tremendous challenges faced by autistic individuals and their families, but celebrated their unique strengths and creativity.
“I salute and celebrate the unwavering love and dedication of families with loved ones who are autistic,” Mrs Tinubu stated.
She underscored the vital role played by community organisations in providing essential resources, services, and opportunities.
However, Mrs Tinubu stressed that more must be done to create an inclusive environment for Nigerians with autism.
“Together we can create a world where individuals, irrespective of who they are and whatever challenges they face, are empowered, included, and celebrated for their unique gifts,” the First Lady declared.
