House of Representatives has urged the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to swiftly intervene and prevent the complete collapse of power distribution and transmission in Yenagoa; the Bayelsa State capital.

This followed the passage of a motion titled: “Call to Resuscitate the Power Transmission Substation in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State,” sponsored by Hon Oboku Abonsizibe Oforji (PDP, Bayelsa) yesterday.
Moving the motion, Oforji noted that on 23 September 2023, the 132/33KV Transmission Substation serving Yenagoa and environs was gutted by fire, throwing Yenagoa in total darkness.
The lawmaker informed that subsequently, the state has been struggling to use only a feeder to supply five feeders.

He expressed worry that the operational feeder is getting weak and, if urgent steps are not taken, the feeder will collapse.

Oforji acknowledged that the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company has been carrying out remedial services to avert the collapse of the weak operational feeder.
Adopting the motion, the House mandated its Committee on Power to ensure compliance with the prayers.
