Governor lfeanyi Okowa of Delta State and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), gubernatorial candidate Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi have disagreed on the state of Ayakoromo Bridge in Burutu, Burutu local government area of the state.

The state government had some weeks ago revoked the contract, alleging poor performance by the former contractor.

While Okowa announced that his administration had re-awarded the bridge contract, Gbagi promised to complete the bridge which the governor abandoned within his first six months of administration.

Okowa made this known recently at the party’s campaign at Burutu, assuring that the project would be completed as promised.

While expressing gratitude to the people of the area for their consistent support to the PDP over the years, he assured that Setraco would mobilize to site next week.

“The contractor has not been doing well and we have recently terminated the contract and re-awarded it to Setraco Nigeria Ltd. Next week, we will mobilize them to start and they will finish it because it is a promise I made to you people and I must fulfil it,” he said.

But Gbagi who lamented that Okowa hurriedly announced that his administration had re-awarded the bridge contract to Setraco Nigeria Limited because he promised to fix it, assured he would lay the foundation of the bridge within the first three months as governor.

“I am bringing the Germans to come and do the bridge, they have given us the design and that the bridge will cost us $697 million. That is not money, the money you are coughing out daily from this place, is more than that.

“Okowa’s administration, terminated the bridge contract after it reviewed it from the initial contract sum of N6billion to N10.5 billion. If l could create 13 universities within three months as a minister, l will would fix the bridge,“ Gbagi said.
