The AYCF in a statement by its president-general, Shettima Yerima, said the forum believes that President Tinubu’s decision is a significant step towards addressing the security challenges faced in the North and the nation as a whole.

The AYCF’s said the decision highlights the importance of continuity and stability in addressing critical issues such as national security.

“By retaining Defence Minister Matawalle in his cabinet, President Tinubu has demonstrated a commitment to ensuring that the necessary expertise and experience are retained in key positions within the government.

“The AYCF’s support for this decision also underscores the importance of unity and collaboration in tackling security challenges. By standing behind President Tinubu’s move, the AYCF is sending a strong message of solidarity and cooperation in the fight against insecurity in the country.

“Furthermore, the AYCF’s endorsement of President Tinubu’s decision serves as a reminder of the need for inclusivity and diversity in governance. By retaining Defence Minister Matawalle, President Tinubu is not only recognizing the importance of regional representation but also acknowledging the valuable contributions that individuals from different backgrounds can bring to the table.

“We commend President Tinubu for recognising the value of Defence Minister Matawalle’s experience and expertise in matters of national security. His knowledge of the security landscape in the North, particularly in Zamfara State, will be crucial in formulating and implementing effective strategies to combat insurgency and other security threats.

“By retaining Matawalle in his cabinet, President Tinubu has demonstrated a commitment to continuity and stability in the government’s approach to security issues.

“We call on Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal to take a cue from President Tinubu’s decision and cease his unnecessary hostilities against the defence minister. It is essential for all stakeholders to work together towards a common goal of ensuring the safety and security of the people,” the statement read.

Shettima urged Governor Lawal to focus on the job he was elected for and collaborate with the defence minister to address the security challenges facing Zamfara State.

A similar statement issued by the chairman of NAN, Salihu Suleiman, said their  endorsement of President Tinubu’s decision highlights the widespread support for Matawalle’s leadership in the defence ministry, adding that, “as a prominent advocacy group in the North, our approval carries significant weight and underscores the importance of Matawalle’s role in addressing security challenges in the region.”
