Veteran comic actor Abiodun Ayoyinka has announced a rebrand, dropping the ‘Papa Ajasco’ identity for a new name, ‘Bondu Alaska’.
The actor confirmed the development in a video shared on his social media platforms, marking a shift from the character he portrayed for decades.
Ayoyinka said the decision followed limitations on the independent use of the ‘Papa Ajasco’ brand.
He noted that the character remains the intellectual property of Wale Adenuga Productions (WAP), restricting his ability to use it for personal commercial engagements.
The development comes after the actor raised concerns about financial challenges in recent weeks.
Wale Adenuga Productions, in its response, reiterated that the ‘Papa Ajasco’ name is a protected trademark.
The company explained that while Ayoyinka cannot use the character independently, he may still participate in brand-related projects with proper approval.
The ‘Papa Ajasco’ television series remains one of Nigeria’s longest-running comedy productions, with Ayoyinka widely recognised for his role.
