Nigerian music star Ayra Starr has disclosed that her recently released single, Where Do We Go, was inspired by a private relationship she described as unhealthy and emotionally uncertain.
The singer released the track on March 6 under Mavin Global Holdings and Republic Records.
The song reflects the emotional tension of a complicated romance marked by secrecy, late-night meetings, and unanswered questions about the future.
Speaking during an appearance on the podcast hosted by Angela Yee, the singer explained that the song was drawn from a real experience she kept private.
According to Starr, the relationship remained hidden from others, leaving only the two people involved aware of it.
‘‘Where Do We Go is inspired by a very secret relationship I had for a while where nobody really knew what was going on, only us,” she said.
The artiste admitted that several of her close friends had advised her to end the relationship, warning that the situation was unhealthy. Despite their concerns, she said she found it difficult to walk away at the time.
“My friends kept telling me to wrap it up, but I was like, no, I love him.” She added.
Starr further described the relationship as a “sneaky link type of situation,” explaining that it lacked clarity and direction.
According to her, the emotional confusion she experienced became the foundation for the song’s lyrics.
“That’s why I kept asking in the song, where do we go from here, what is the point of this? Do you like me because I like you? Everything in the song is very real,” she said.
The singer noted that the track reflects the inner questions many people face when they remain in relationships that lack commitment or a clear future.
