Armed bandits on Thursday attacked the Oniko community in Moro local government area of Kwara State, killing an aged woman and abducting four residents.
Though Oniko is situated in Moro local government in Kwara north, it’s an Ilorin Emirate’s community as Moro LG is one of the five local government areas that make up Ilorin Emirate.
The people that were abducted at the agrarian community populated by rich farmers included a nursing mother and her seven months old baby.
Sources told LEADERSHIP that the gunmen stormed the Oniko community, near the popular Olowu town which hosts a large market in Moro local government area at about 7pm.
“The gunmen stormed our community at about 7pm and headed to a building where they abducted five persons, including an aged woman, nursing mother and her baby. It was like a targeted operation.
“We learnt that the bandits shot the aged woman when she could not walk at their pace. The woman later died,” sources said.
The disturbed people of Moro local government area in a viral post on social media platforms called the attention of the security agencies and the state government to the unfortunate development.
The post reads, “We call security agent to save our people in Oniko village Logun/Jeunkunnu ward, Moro local government, Kwara State. Bandits are operating there presently shooting, kidnapping our people’s in Oniko village.It’s a matter of urgency.”
This post was forwarded to the State Police/ Media Platform since the evening of Friday by a concerned journalist, but as at the time of filing this report on Saturday, there have been no response from the police hierarchy.
