Armed bandits, reportedly disguised in women’s hijabs, have attacked Mallamawar Yari village in Gawakuke ward of Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing several residents and abducting others.
The incident was revealed in a post shared on Sunday by security analyst, Bakatsine, on X.
According to the post, the assailants stormed the community at night and launched a large-scale attack while dressed in women’s hijabs, a tactic believed to have enabled them to move within the area without attracting suspicion.
During the raid, several villagers were reportedly killed, while many others were kidnapped and taken to an undisclosed location.
Bakatsine said the incident has heightened fears among residents as violent attacks continue to affect various communities in the state.
“Last night, armed bandits reportedly disguised in women’s hijabs attacked Mallamawar Yari village in Gawakuke ward, Rabah LGA, Sokoto State. Several residents were killed and many others abducted during the attack.
“With attacks continuing across communities in Sokoto State, the question remains; what concrete measures are being taken to halt the growing wave of insecurity in the state?,” Bakatsine wrote.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the attack.
