Reports say no fewer than 30 people were feared killed on Thursday night when bandits attacked Dutsin Dan Ajiya village in Anka local government area of Zamfara State.

It was gathered that the attackers arrived the community on motorbikes after blocking the entry and exit points and attacked residents for hours.

A resident of the community said about 30 bodies were seen after the attack while many people were missing as at yesterday morning.

He said many were wounded while others were abducted, according to Sahara Reporters.

In another development, police in Kebbi State yesterday confirmed that 33 people were killed in an attack on Bui District in Arewa local government area of the state following a cattle-rustling incident.

Spokesman of the Kebbi Police Command, Bashir Usman, said this in a statement.

Dozens were feared dead after suspected Lakurawa terrorists carried out attacks on several rural communities in the area on Wednesday.

According to local and security sources, the gunmen stormed villages in the remote border district, opening fire on residents in what survivors described as highly organised and indiscriminate assaults.

Breakdowns from security sources indicated that 16 people were killed in Mamunu, five in Awashaka, three in Masama, while two people each lost their lives in five other affected villages.

“In response, the command, in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, has deployed additional personnel and operational assets to the affected area. Sustained area domination patrols are currently underway to restore and maintain stability,” the police statement said.

It said preliminary investigations indicated that suspected Lakurawa militants entered Bui District to rustle cattle.

The attackers are believed to have crossed into the area from Gudu local government area in neighbouring Sokoto State.

Residents from Mamunu, Awasaka, Tungan Tsoho, Makangara, Kanzo, Gorun Naidal, and Dan Mai Ago reportedly mobilised in response to the intrusion, leading to a fatal confrontation with the armed group.
