Several residents of Ojantele village in Apa Local Government of Benue State were reportedly killed by the suspected bandits terrorising Southern part of the state.

The exact number of casualties was not confirmed and verified.

A source told our correspondent that the attackers invaded the community Friday morning shooting residents who went to farm to check on their produce after  the Thursday evening downpour.

A brother of a victim who did not want his name mentioned said some of the farmers went missing after the incident while injured ones were taken to hospital for medical attention.

“It was a terrible attack. I cannot confirm the exact number of people killed by the armed herdsmen but many were killed, while others sustained injuries. My people in the village called and reported the incident to me today Friday. According to the victims, the incident happened early morning”

“When you go to our village, you will see many herdsmen grazing and destroying crops with impunity. Security operatives should as a matter of urgency work hard to protect our communities before things get out of hands” he stated.

Meanwhile, Benue State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet said she would get back when contacted over the attack, “I will get back to you over this information” but did not at time of filling this report.
