Suspected bandits have invaded the house of a vigilante leader, Mallam Nabanje in Danmusa local government area of Katsina State, killing him, raping women and setting the house ablaze.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when the bandits stormed the community in large numbers, shooting sporadically on innocent people. Two members of the town sustained gun wounds as  the criminal also took advantage of three women which they abducted and later freed.

A credible source disclosed that the hoodlums came primarily for Mallam Nabanje, the head of the vigilante patrol group in the area, whom they alleged has been responsible for the destruction of some of their hideouts around the area lately.

“When the bandits came, they went direct to Mallam Nabanje’s residence spreading themselves on every route and they found him under a tree where they engaged him in a gun duel until he ran out of ammunition. He then ran into a building where they surrounded him and butchered him to death when their gunshots could not penetrate his body”, the source said.

The police spokesman, ASP Sadiq Abubakar has confirmed the incident. He said, “Immediately we received the report, our operatives went after them and efforts are still ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of the act.”
