Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, yesterday led a delegation of the Senate to Maiduguri to condole Vice President Kashim Shettima over the death of his stepmother, Hajja Hauwa Abba Kormi, who died Thursday at the age of 69.
A statement signed by the special adviser to the deputy senate president on media and publicity, Ismail Mudashir, quoted Senator Barau urging him and other members of the family to take solace in the fact that the deceased lived a righteous life dedicated to the service of Allah and humanity, while condoling the vice president.
President of the 9th Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, was with the deputy senate president during the visit.
“We are here on behalf of the entire senate to pay our condolences to His Excellency, the Vice President. The president of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio would have been here, but for the fact that he has traveled to Cote d’Ivoire for the match of the Super Eagles to support the country.
“As such we are here on behalf of the entire senators to condole and commiserate with the vice president and indeed the people of the North East and the entire people of the country for the loss of our mother.
“We are here to also pray to Almighty Allah to give the vice president and the entire people of the North East and the country at large, the fortitude to bear the loss of our mother. May her gentle soul rest in Jannatul Firdaus. May Almighty Allah forgive her,” he said. The vice president thanked the delegation for the visit.
