Bashir El-Rufai Reveals Why He Divorced First Wife Halima

Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has disclosed the reason behind the collapse of his marriage to his first wife, Halima Kazaure.

Bashir, who married Halima in October 2020 in Abuja, made the revelation on Friday during a question-and-answer session with followers on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

The wedding, which was attended by prominent figures including former Senate Presidents Ahmad Lawan and Bukola Saraki, as well as former Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, was publicly announced in November 2020.

He revealed that the marriage has since ended, stating that he is currently divorced.

Responding to social media reactions after he publicly admired another woman during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Bashir clarified his marital status and confirmed the separation.

“I’m not married yet. I am divorced. Yes, she’s from Bida, and yes, I divorced my first wife (I have no time for Gen Z wahala),” he wrote.

He further claimed that his former wife is now his fiancée.

“The difference is clear, I had no clue Nupe women treat their husbands like emperors. Loving it,” he added.

Bashir also made additional comments on his personal relationships, saying he does not actively pursue women into marriage and often does not initiate romantic relationships.

“I don’t toast, babes. Never have… I also never asked a girl to marry me. Even in my 1st, she was the one who proposed,” he said.

As of the time of filing this report, Halima Kazaure had not publicly responded to his claims. A review of her social media page showed her most recent post was related to the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
