Bauchi Agency Disburses N485m To Adolescent Girls

The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) has disbursed the sum of N485 million to 12,133 adolescent girls in Bauchi State.

Hajiya Ladi Mohhamed, the AGILE project coordinator, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen yesterday while highlighting some of the achievements of the project in the state.

According to her, the gesture, which was carried out under the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) component of the project was to enhance enrolment and transition of girls in schools.

“We have created accounts for these 12,133 beneficiaries, each adolescent student has her personal account and we have credited the account with N40,000 as registration and transition fees.

“Registration fee is N15,000 while transition fee is N25,000 and we have distributed Automated Teller Machine cards and Identification Cards to about 80 per cent of these beneficiaries.

“We would have finished the distribution by now but the delay is due to the closure of schools and we have put all the preparations to continue distribution after school resumption,” said the Coordinator.

She explained that the project was also working on identifying beneficiaries that attained 75 per cent attendance in schools who would be credited an extra N10,000 for the first term.

The Project Coordinator added that AGILE, under the small and medium grant, was expected to renovate 833 schools across the 20 Local Government Areas of the state which would be in phases.

Mohammed, who revealed that renovations of 252 schools under phase one of the renovation project had commenced, said that another 256 schools had been validated under phase two and renovation works would commence by the second week of January, 2026.

Similarly, the Bauchi State Ministry of Education said that in order to further enhance school enrolment, transition and lessen the burden of indigent students, Gov. Bala Mohammed paid the sum of NN793.6 million for the 2025 external examination of 25,410 indigent SS3 students.

This is contained in a scorecard document made available by Mr Jalaludeen Usman, the Public Relations Officer of the ministry.

According to the document, the external examinations catered for by the governor included the National Examination Council (NECO) and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Others were; National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) and the National Board for Arabic and Islamic studies (NBAIS).

Additionally, 80 boreholes and 90 wells were constructed in some primary schools through the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) Project and toilets in primary and secondary schools in the state.

This provision, it said, has helped to improve sanitation and hygiene in schools, making them more comfortable for students and also helped in improving school attendance and retention particularly in girls’ secondary schools.
