Bauchi State House of Assembly has appealed to Governor Bala Mohammed to lift embargo on the recruitment of civil servants. They said low cadre civil servants are needed to fill the middle cadre.

The House majority leader, Hon Tijjani Muhammad Aliyu Azare and member representing Madangala constituency made the call while contributing to the motion on agriculture moved by Hon Babayo Muhammad during plenary presided over by the speaker, Hon Abubakar Y. Suleiman.

Tijjani noted that it is not too much for the government to embark on this exercise because it is doing other activities that add no value to the society and spending huge amounts of money on them.

The lawmaker further stated that recruitment of civil servants in the state will reduce poverty and insecurity.

He said the motion is not only timely but very important because of the role the service plays in improving agriculture.

“If care is not taken in the next two years Bauchi State will not have good administrative and other officers because people are retiring and there is no replacement,” he said.

He stated that the state civil service is suffering because of shortage of manpower.

“Someone will retire and there will be no replacement and no recruitment of workers in the state. We will wake to find one day, there is no experienced worker in the state,” he lamented.

Hon Baballe Abubakar Dambam (Dambam/Dagauda/Jalam Constituency) said that in his constituency there are only two agric extension officers and the situation is creating low productivity in agriculture in the area.

While seconding the prayers of the motion, he explained that the country is moving towards agriculture for food production and to create wealth, as a result of that, extension workers should be employed and trained. The House unanimously adopted the prayers of the motion.

In another development, the house committee on education has presented its report on a Bill for a law to establish Bauchi State College of Education (Technical) Dass and for connected matters therewith.

The committee led by Hon Babayo Muhammad (Hardawa Constituency), said that it had requested for inputs from relevant education stakeholders within and outside the state with a view to making comparison on relevant laws in existence in other states to facilitate the successful passage of the Bill in Bauchi State.

According to the committee, there were some critical points omitted in the law which need to be incorporated to make the content of the law thorough and all-encompassing.
