Bauchi Boosts Livestock Production With Equipment Distribution

The Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has urged beneficiary clusters of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project facilities to safeguard and properly utilise them to boost economic activities in their communities.

The governor made the call yesterday during the distribution of 100 choppers, 100 crushers and 20 motorcycles to three major value chain clusters, 30 sub-clusters and 20 livestock extension workers drawn from the 20 local government areas of the state.

Represented by the state commissioner for Livestock Development, Dr Bala Musa Lukshi, the governor said the exercise was not merely about handing over machines to communities but reflected the government’s strong commitment to transforming the livestock sector into a modern, productive and economically viable industry.

He noted that the initiative is aimed at enhancing food security, creating employment opportunities and improving the livelihoods of rural dwellers across the state.

Governor Mohammed also commended the state project coordinator and members of the L-PRES team for their dedication and efforts in empowering rural communities through the programme.

On his part, the overseeing permanent secretary in the Ministry of Livestock Development, Alhaji Yakubu Aliyu Dahuwa, reaffirmed the governor’s continued support to the ministry and the L-PRES project in the state.

Earlier, the state project coordinator, Mr Musa Adamu, described the event as a significant milestone in the collective efforts to revitalise and reposition the livestock sector in Bauchi State and the country at large.

He explained that the intervention would enhance the production of quality animal feed, reduce post-harvest losses of crop residues and improve productivity while strengthening extension service delivery at the grassroots.

Also, the Emir of Dass, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman III, described the support provided to the clusters and extension workers across the three value chains as unprecedented.

The Emir expressed appreciation to the Bauchi State government, the World Bank and the National Coordination Office of L-PRES project for initiating the programme.

He also commended the state L-PRES team for their commitment to achieving the objectives of the project.

The highpoint of the event was the presentation of choppers, crushers and motorcycles to beneficiaries, accompanied by goodwill messages from representatives of the three value chain clusters, including the provost of the College of Agriculture, the national president of Kautal Pulaku Fulbe, as well as the chairmen of MACBAN, Butchers’ Association and Sarkin Fawan Bauchi, among others.
