Bauchi State Commissioner of Higher Education and Regional Integration, Dr Lydia Haruna Tsammani, has applauded the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Sa‘adu Zungur University (SAZU) Branch for suspending its 2-week strike.
The commissioner made the commendation while speaking with journalists yesterday. She also commended the state executive and legislative arms of government for continuous engagement with the university union.
The commissioner emphasised the importance of qualitative and affordable education for the development of the state and the nation.
Tsammani pledged that the state government would continue educationally friendly policies to bring a long-lasting solution to lecturers‘ welfare.
The Commissioner reiterated Governor Bala Mohammad‘s firm commitment to quality and affordable education in the state, adding that education is a panacea for development and must be a top priority in Governor Bala‘s government‘s policy thrust.
The commissioner assured her commitment to continuing to collaborate with ASUU and relevant bodies to improve the state‘s education quality despite financial challenges.
Dr Lydia Haruna Tsammani, however, urged students of tertiary institutions to remain peaceful, steadfast and committed to their academic pursuits.
