Farmers in Bauchi State have been urged to abandon outdated farming methods and adopt modern practices to improve productivity, sustainability, and profitability.

The advice was given by an agro consultant, Umar Adamu Sarkin Yara, during a one-day training  organised by Dass Ten, a local humanitarian organisation.

The training brought together farmers from eight wards in Dass local government area.

Umar said the initiative aims to empower the farmers with improved techniques to boost food production and help reduce poverty and hunger.

He acknowledged the current economic challenges facing the country but expressed optimism that with proper support, the agricultural sector could thrive and provide a better future for rural communities.

He commended Dass Ten for organising the training, describing it as a valuable effort that complements government initiatives to ensure food security and promote economic development.

For his part, chairman of Dass Ten, Mr. Iliya Musa Zagi, explained that the forum was established in 2018 with just ten members. Since then, it has grown into a grassroots platform dedicated to supporting the people of Dass local government area.

Represented by the group’s treasurer, Barrister Solomon Ezekiel Magaji, he encouraged the participating farmers to take full advantage of the training to gain insights into the opportunities presented by modern agricultural systems.

Speaking on behalf of the trained farmers, Malam Usman Abdullahi expressed appreciation for the opportunity.

He emphasised the importance of modern farming in increasing food output and fighting poverty, not just in Dass but across Bauchi State.

He pledged to apply the knowledge gained and appealed to governments at all levels to provide funding and tools to local farmers.

The training session covered essential aspects of crop production and new agricultural technologies and participants were also given practical, hands-on experience in the application of modern farming techniques.
