Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has approved the immediate dissolution of the management of Bill and Melinda Gates College of Health Technology, Ningi in Bauchi State.

The governor also approved the appointment of an interim management team tasked with addressing the persistent challenges affecting the smooth operation of the college, restoring academic excellence, improving infrastructure and enhancing overall efficiency.

This was contained in a statement by the Information and Public Relations Officer in the Office of the State Head of Civil Service, Auwal Sani Waziri, made available to journalists in Bauchi yesterday.

According to the statement, the interim team will be headed by Alhaji Adamu Mato of the State Ministry of Higher Education as provost, while Inuwa Haruna, deputy director of the college, will serve as deputy provost of the team.

Other members include Hashim Umar, deputy director, PHCUOR; Dr Sule Bello Ningi of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic and Naja’atu Hamza, a Medical Laboratory Scientist from the State Ministry of Health.

Mohammed Bello Yakubu, director of Administration and Human Resources, will serve as registrar, while a representative from the Treasury Division in the Office of the Accountant General will act as bursar.

The government stated that the interim management would serve for an initial period of six months, subject to renewal based on performance.

Their terms of reference include assessing the current challenges facing the college, identifying areas for improvement, and developing and implementing turnaround strategies to restore academic and operational stability.

The team is also expected to enhance infrastructure and resources, rebuild stakeholder confidence, and report directly to the state commissioner for Health and Social Welfare.

Additionally, the committee has been directed to submit regular progress reports to the government through the commissioner.

The Head of Civil Service congratulated the members of the interim team and urged them to leverage their experience to reposition the institution and restore its past glory.
