Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has expressed sorrow over the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of seven journalists at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Gombe.
Our correspondent reports that seven staff members of NTA Gombe lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident on the Billiri-Kumo-Gombe Road while returning from the wedding of their colleague.
Similarly, two other journalists sustained varying injuries. They are currently receiving medical attention.
The governor, in a condolence message signed by his spokesperson, Mukhtar Gidado, and made available to journalists in Bauchi, described the incident as heartbreaking.
Governor Mohammed noted that the deaths represent a profound loss not only to the media industry but also to the entire North-East region and the nation at large.
He said journalists play an indispensable role in strengthening democracy, promoting unity and keeping society informed, making their sudden demise deeply painful.
“As a journalist by profession and a close neighbour to Gombe State, I share deeply in this moment of grief,” the governor said.
He commiserated with the Government and people of Gombe State, the management and staff of the Nigerian Television Authority, as well as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at both the national and Gombe State levels.
He also extended condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased journalists.
Governor Mohammed prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed and called on Almighty Allah to grant their families the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
He further wished those injured in the accident a speedy and full recovery.
