Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has called on public relations practitioners in Nigeria to uphold the principles of truth, justice and integrity in the discharge of their duties.

The governor described public relations as a vital pillar for shaping public perception, promoting national unity and fostering accountable governance.

He emphasised the critical role of public relations professionals in today’s era of misinformation and divisive narratives, urging them to remain steadfast as vanguards of truth and custodians of ethical communication.

A statement yesterday by the special adviser on Media and Publicity to the governor, Mukhtar Gidado, said that Mohammed made this call in a keynote address during the 2025 Annual Conference and Elections of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The governor who was represented at the event by the Bauchi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Usman Shehu Usman, urged the NIPR to strengthen its regulatory framework to ensure that only qualified and ethical practitioners represent institutions and individuals.

He warned that the credibility of the profession is at risk if quackery is not addressed.

“The image and integrity of our country depend largely on how information is managed and communicated. As professionals, you must rise above sentiments and partisanship, and instead become advocates of national interest, unity and progress,” he stated.

Governor Mohammed commended the NIPR for its consistent efforts in promoting professionalism and ethical standards in public communication. He expressed confidence that the outcomes of the 2025 Conference and Elections would further reposition the institute for greater impact.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting professional bodies and creating a conducive environment for dialogue, development and responsible communication in Bauchi State and across Nigeria.
