Bauchi Government Orders Closure Of Schools

The Bauchi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all primary, secondary and tertiary institutions as well as public, private and even Federal Government-owned schools across the state.

The spokesperson of Bauchi State Ministry of Education, Jalaludeen Usman, announced this on Sunday night in a statement made available to journalists in Bauchi.

Usman said the decision to close schools followed “extensive consultations” with security agencies and other stakeholders.

He added that the decision, although difficult, was taken to protect students, teachers and learning environments.

“The government is fully aware of the inconvenience this may cause. However, the protection of our children remains our highest moral responsibility. Every student in Bauchi State deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, stable, and free of fear.

“We therefore call on parents, guardians, school proprietors, and all concerned stakeholders not to panic, but to remain calm and cooperative.”

The spokesperson assured that the government is working closely with security agencies to address the concerns swiftly and comprehensively, ensuring that normal academic activities resume as soon as it is safe to do so.
Usman also urged citizens to remain vigilant. “If you see something, say something. Timely information from the public is crucial in safeguarding our communities,” he added.

It would be recalled that Plateau, Katsina and Niger States had directed immediate closure of both primary and secondary schools to protect both teachers and students from being target for possible bandits attack.
