LEADERSHIP Sunday reports that Gumau died on Friday night in Abuja. He was buried yesterday. He was elected into the Senate in 2018 in a bye-election after the death of Senator Malam Ali Wakili. He was reelected in 2019 but failed to return to the Red Chamber in 2023 despite defecting to the NNPP from APC.

Governor Bala Mohammed described the late Senator Gumau as a distinguished public servant whose contributions to Bauchi State and Nigeria will remain indelible.

“Senator Lawan Yahaya Gumau was a man of humility, honesty, and remarkable leadership,” the governor said.

He added, “His tenure in the National Assembly was marked by unwavering commitment to good governance, advocacy for policies that uplifted his constituents, and relentless efforts to better the state.”

Governor Mohammed extended his condolences to the late senator’s family, the people of Bauchi South Senatorial District, and the entire state.

He urged everyone to take solace in Senator Gumau’s legacy of dedication and patriotism, praying that Almighty Allah grants him Jannatul Firdaus and gives his family and associates the strength to bear this great loss.

The passing of Senator Gumau marks a painful chapter in Bauchi’s history, as the state remembers a leader who lived a life of service and left behind a legacy of selflessness and development.
