The immediate past minister of foreign affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, yesterday has vowed to tackle insecurity and boost the Bauchi State economy through agriculture if elected governor.
Tuggar stated this after he obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) expression of interest and nomination forms to seek the party’s ticket for the 2027 Bauchi governorship election.
Addressing journalists shortly after obtaining the N50 million APC govenrorship forms, the governorship aspirant said if elected his administration will focus among others on, “the issue of insecurity; issue of how to manage and harness the farmland that we have.”
He said,”the 46 thousands square meters of land that Bauchi possesses will be used to ensure subsistence formers and herders are able to sustain themselves in a way that we can manage it such that farmers and the people are out of poverty.
“And that the land is not just taken by a few and the rest of the people are pushed into poverty and desperation.”
Tuggar said he was open to any mode of primary election, either consensus or direct, provided the process is free and fair.
“I hope that the process will be free and fair. And I hope regardless of what the party chooses whether direct or consensus. As far as the process is free and fair,” he added.
However, the former minister in apparent reference to direct primaries, said;”it is to ensure that we put forward people with credibility as candidates. People that commands the respect and genuine followership.
