A support group, Professor Pate Grassroots Movement, has commenced ward-to-ward mobilisation across Bauchi State in preparation for the anticipated 2027 governorship ambition of Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate.
Convener of the movement, Nazeef Sa’id Wambai, disclosed this during a meeting with residents of Makama Sarkin Baki Ward yesterday, where he stressed the importance of active grassroots participation in politics and the electoral process.
Wambai said rural communities must be fully involved in deciding the kind of leadership they desire, noting that the real needs of the people are basic social amenities rather than luxury lifestyles.
According to him, communities are in urgent need of security, quality education, functional healthcare facilities, potable water, good road networks and agricultural inputs to improve livelihoods.
“This Movement is focused on enlightening people about their rights and empowering them to demand accountability from leaders. We want them to be part of the decision-making process that directly affects their well-being,” he said.
Said Wambai explained that the group comprised women, youths, traders and artisans who have openly shared the challenges facing their communities.
He revealed that residents lamented the absence of a primary healthcare centre in the entire ward, describing it as unacceptable given the size of the area.
“This is one of the largest wards in Bauchi State, yet there is not a single primary healthcare centre. Residents are forced to travel long distances to access basic healthcare services. We will engage relevant authorities to address this critical issue,” he added.
Wambai described Professor Muhammad Ali Pate as an accomplished health expert and a two-time minister with a strong passion for public welfare.
He noted that Pate played a key role in transforming Nigeria’s health sector and urged residents to give him massive support whenever he formally declares his intention to contest the Bauchi State governorship seat.
One of the residents, Jamilu Aminu Gali, expressed appreciation to the Movement for drawing attention to what he described as years of neglected suffering.
He said it had become normal for pregnant women in the area to be transported on tricycles or vehicles to distant communities in search of medical care.
“What we need most are education, employment opportunities and accessible healthcare services. We thank the Professor Pate Grassroots Movement for opening our eyes to what we should begin to demand as we move towards 2027,” Gali said.
