Bauchi State government has approved the construction of an Oil and Gas Academy in Alkaleri local government area of the state.
The construction of the academy comes after the discovery and exploration of crude oil in commercial quantity in Kolmani, a community in Alkaleri local government.
State commissioner for Natural Resources, Maiwada Bello, disclosed this while addressing journalists shortly after a session of the State Executive Council.
The Oil and Gas Academy, which is the first of its kind in northern Nigeria, promises to position Bauchi as a significant player in Nigeria’s burgeoning oil and gas industry, building a highly skilled local workforce capable of meeting national and international industry demands.
He said the campus would include essential structures such as a perimeter fence, gatehouse, administrative block and a dedicated academic building.
It would also include classrooms, a twin lecture theatre, ICT centres, advanced laboratories, a library, hostels, staff quarters and a large auditorium to create a conducive learning environment and provide students with state-of-the-art training resources.
Bello also disclosed that his ministry has been renamed as Bauchi State Ministry of Natural Resources and Development.
