Bauchi State government has dismissed a report alleging that the state has not recruited school teachers over the last five years.
In an interview with journalists, Jalaludeen Usman, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Education, described the report as inaccurate and misrepresenting the state’s ongoing teacher recruitment efforts.
“This claim is inaccurate and does not reflect the current and ongoing efforts of the Bauchi State government in the area of teacher recruitment,” Usman stated.
He said that in 2022, the ministry, in collaboration with the Federal Teachers’ Scheme (FTTS), UNICEF, and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), successfully integrated 310 new teachers into the education system.
“In 2024, the state government facilitated the transfer of 84 teaching-qualified staff from various Local Government Areas (LGAs) to the Bauchi State Special Schools Management Board (BSSMB).
“These individuals are currently teaching in Special Schools across the 20 LGAs. Additionally, 110 Administrative Staff members with teaching qualifications were converted to teaching roles, further bolstering our workforce,” Usman added.
He highlighted ongoing efforts to recruit 3,000 new teachers, including 1,000 core subject teachers and 2,000 teachers for Primary and Junior Secondary Schools.
He added, “These efforts demonstrate our commitment to enhancing the quality of education in Bauchi State through the continuous recruitment and integration of qualified teachers.”
He appealed to media houses to ensure the accuracy and balance of their reports before publication, stressing that misleading information undermines progress in the education sector.
