Bauchi State government has dismissed the head teacher of Dagaro Primary School Adamu Bawa in Katagum local government area from service over negligence of official duties.
The chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri, announced this when he paid a visit to the Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Faruk Umar II after an unscheduled inspection of public primary and junior secondary schools.
He said the board during the visit discovered neither students nor teachers on ground and some youths were returning chairs of the school from a private event.
The chairman noted that the head teacher was untidy and drunk when he went to ascertain the act at his residence.
Alhaji Adamu Duguri said the present administration in the state had made it clear that any staff found wanting would be punished accordingly.
He expressed disappointment that some teachers had refused to desist from truancy despite the recent increase in their salaries by the state government.
The SUBEB boss noted that head teachers who were still in the business of illegal use of school properties would face dismissal from service when caught.
He called on stakeholders in public primary education to help monitor and supervise teachers in their localities and report anyone found doing the wrong things to the board, particularly in the areas of poor commitment to work, absenteeism and misuse of school properties.
Alhaji Duguri thanked the Emir of Katagum Alhaji Faruk Umar for his support on reforms in public primary education.
Responding, the emir assured of his readiness to support the state government in addressing challenges facing education in the state.
Earlier, the education secretary for Katagum local government area, Adamu Alhaji Mohammad, said his office would enforce discipline in schools to ensure quality service delivery and thanked the state the SUBEB chairman for the unscheduled inspection.
