Bauchi State government has distributed packaged food and drinks to inmates at Bauchi Custodial Centre to enable them to enjoy Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
LEADERSHIP gathered that about 1,000 inmates benefitted from the exercise designed to give them a sense of belonging.
At the event, the permanent secretary of Bauchi State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Saratu Jibrin, said the inmates are part of society while assuring them of assistance.
Jubrin promised to forward the inmates’ complaints to Governor Bala Mohammed for necessary action.
Responding, the comptroller in charge of Bauchi Custodial Centre, Ibrahim Bawa, appreciated the state government for the gesture and informed the delegation that the Nigerian Correctional Service is always ready to partner with the government to enhance criminal justice administration in the state.
He said the donation would motivate the inmates to be productive and law-abiding citizens after leaving the custodial centre.
Some inmates described the gesture as the first of its kind in the centre.
Special prayers were offered for the repose of the soul of the late commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Aliyu Jalam, who died in a road accident early this month.
