Bauchi State government has announced plans to establish 10 additional Community FM radio stations as part of Governor Bala Mohammed’s commitment to strengthening communication and fostering a harmonious relationship between the government and the people.
In addition to the new FM stations, the government has also established a committee to revive the Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC) AM station, which has been off the air for over a decade.
The commissioner for Information and Communication, Alhaji Usman Shehu Usman, disclosed this while leading a team to Darazo to inspect the proposed sites for the new community radio stations yesterday.
According to him, Governor Bala Mohammed has approved the immediate commencement of the project, fulfilling his pledge to ensure equity, fairness, and inclusive distribution of infrastructure and government programmes across the state, in line with the needs of the people.
Alhaji Usman explained that the initiative aims to improve access to information, enhance public participation in governance, and ensure that government policies and programmes reach communities at the grassroots in languages they understand.
He listed the local government areas to benefit from the project as Dass, Bogoro, Shira, Giade, Dambam, Warji, Itas/Gadau, Darazo, and Azare.
Speaking on behalf of the council chairmen, the Chairman of Darazo Local Government Council, Alhaji Samaila Ya’u Sade, commended Governor Bala Mohammed for initiating the project, noting that it would significantly improve the dissemination of government programmes and policies to rural communities through broadcasts in local dialects.
He said the establishment of community FM stations would enhance civic awareness, promote unity, and strengthen engagement between the government and citizens at the grassroots level.
Meanwhile, findings revealed that the administration of former Governor Isa Yuguda had earlier established Community FM radio stations in Toro, Tafawa Balewa, Kirfi, Alkaleri, Ningi, Ganjuwa, Misau, Jama’are, Zaki, and Gamawa during his eight-year tenure, as part of efforts to ensure effective communication with residents in their local languages.
