Bauchi State government has announced Sunday, January 4, 2026, as the official date for the reopening of all schools across the state, following significant improvements in the security situation.

The development was contained in a press release issued yesterday by the commissioner for Education, Dr Lawan Muhammad Rimin Zayam, stating that the reopening was approved after broad discussions with key stakeholders, including school principals, education managers, and private school owners.

It will be recalled that on 23rd November, the state government ordered the immediate closure of all primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, including federal and private schools, due to rising security concerns. The government had described the decision as difficult but necessary, noting that it was taken after extensive consultations to safeguard students, teachers, and school communities.

The commissioner said “His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has approved the reopening of all basic, senior secondary, and tertiary institutions in the state with effect from Sunday, 4th January 2026.”

The statement was signed on behalf of the commissioner by the Ministry’s Information and Public Relations Officer, Jalaludeen Usman, examinations scheduled before the closure will now be held within the first week of resumption, after which other academic activities will follow.

The Government has also approved the immediate reopening of the three Federal Government Unity Colleges in the state, in line with a directive from the Federal Ministry of Education.

The Ministry explained that the earlier closure was based on security advice following a series of troubling incidents in schools across the country. The decision to reopen now, it said, is due to the marked improvement in the security outlook.

The Commissioner appealed to parents and guardians to ensure their children return to school promptly, assuring that additional security measures have been put in place to protect students, teachers, and non-teaching staff across all institutions.
