A coalition of over 150 village heads in Lere District, Tafawa Balewa local government area of Bauchi State, has expressed appreciation to Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for creating the Lere Emirate out of Bauchi Emirate.
On Tuesday, Governor Mohammed signed a bill establishing 13 new emirates and one chiefdom across the state.
At a special meeting in Zango Village yesterday, Babangida Zango, the leader of the coalition, and Barayan Lere described the governor’s action as commendable and visionary.
He said the establishment of additional emirates and district heads will bring governance closer to the people, enhance administrative efficiency and promote grassroots development.
“The creation of Lere Emirate will not only improve access to government programs but also boost agricultural productivity and foster socio-economic growth in our communities,” Babangida stated.
He commended Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration for recognising the importance of the Lere community and ensuring its inclusion in the state’s traditional governance structure.
Other traditional leaders who spoke at the meeting, including Muhammad Tukur Sha’aibu, Village Head of Zango; Mallam Munka’il Ibrahim, Village Head of Kofai; Ibrahim Yari, Village Head of Mangas; and Sha’aibu Aliyu Hardo, Village Head of Feruji, also praised the governor’s decision.
They noted that the creation of the Lere Emirate followed extensive consultations with traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, and women, describing it as part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening traditional institutions and improving security coordination across Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to peace and unity, stressing that communities such as Kardam, Wai (Gori), Boto, Zango, Lere, Mangas, and Kufai, among others, remain peaceful and law-abiding. They would continue to support the government’s efforts toward progress and stability in the region.
